Nichole’s post on youth voices

June 13th, 2007 by skoob in Uncategorized · No Comments

Here is a link to a high school student’s blog.

Nichole’s post has evidence of a clear writing voice. She knows how to express what she is thinking in writing. The comments made on her post show a new way of written communication that is evolving. People can hear points of view of others from anywhere at anytime. This is not a form of communication that is going to disappear. I would like to use this in my teaching in the future. I know that students in grades 5 &6 would benefit greatly from this. Not only would they be developing their writing skills but they also would have the chance to identify with others that feel the same way they do.  Also I will teach my students what is appropriate and not appropriate when you are making a post.  Even if I don’t use blogs with my students they are going to be exposed to it at home or at their friends’ homes.  I could help to prevent a tragedy if I teach my students to be aware that just about any kind of person of any age can get on a computer and make them believe things that are not true.
